Apache Inches Over 70 Percent Mark
09.11.2005 posted by Administrator
The Apache Web server upped its market share yet again, crossing the 70 percent threshold last month, according to research firm Netcraft`s (netcraft.com) November Web server survey.
Apache extended its share from 69.89 to 70.98 percent. Microsoft dropped from 20.55 to 20.24 percent. Sun and Zeus One lost 0.02 and 0.01 percentage points respectively. Netcraft`s survey measures Web server software use on all Internet connected computers. The November survey received responses from 74,572,794 sites, marking an increase of 181,000 hostnames over last month. It was the smallest monthly increase since January 2004. According to Netcraft, the small increase can be attributed to France`s enom allowing 810,000 .info names hosted on Windows Server 2003 to expire. In September 2004, an enom affiliate registered one million .info domains in a week and offered them to customers owning similar names in .com.

Ernst & Young consolidates three data centres with TeleCity Information security, flexibility and cost advantages the deciding factors
29.09.2005 posted by Administrator
Frankfurt, 29 September 2005 – TeleCity (LSE:TCY.L), the leading European colocation, data centre and managed services company, today announced that the corporate auditor, Ernst & Young, is to consolidate three of its European data centres at TeleCity in Frankfurt. From October 2005, the IT servers of Ernst & Young’s national data centres in Eschborn near Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Rotterdam will be brought together in a 600 sq. m. suite at TeleCity’s Frankfurt facility. Ernst & Young will continue to operate the network infrastructure, hardware, software, data and applications. Ernst & Young selected TeleCity due to the high degree of flexibility and associated cost advantages on offer. “While a dedicated new-build, in-house data centre requires high initial investment, and the full benefit of the investment is not achieved for several years, a consolidation in TeleCity’s data centre allows us to realise considerable savings, because we only pay for the area being utilised at any particular time. Our analysis of the European colocation market highlighted clear price advantages for Frankfurt,” says Siggi Hauer, Ernst & Young CIO (Chief Information Officer) for Central Europe. “In addition, we see TeleCity as a growing and reliable partner, capable of managing additional data centre services in the future.” Another core factor in Ernst & Young’s decision to go with TeleCity was the IT service provider’s recent certification to BS7799. The British industry standard confirms the company’s secure handling of information – an essential criterion for a corporate auditor such as Ernst & Young. “An additional advantage is TeleCity’s IP Multihome service, which provides high-quality IP connectivity and maximum resilience,” explains Dr. Harold Klein, CTO (Chief Technology Officer) of Ernst & Young AG. “The partnership with Ernst & Young is a clear signal of the re-stimulation of the colocation market in Germany,” said Dr. Béla Waldhauser, Managing Director of TeleCity GmbH. “We are currently involved in detailed talks with other prestigious companies, for which we will also be providing a wide range of services in the near future. A key part of our strength is the combination of conventional colocation business and a new generation of specialised services, individually tailored to the customer.” About Ernst & Young With headquarters in Stuttgart, Ernst & Young is one of Germany’s major auditors and management consultancies and is the German member company of Ernst & Young Global. Ernst & Young is the leading German provider of tax consultancy services, employing around 6,500 people in 22 locations. In the 2003/2004 business year, the company returned a turnover of more than EUR 860 million, making Ernst & Young the third largest player in the German audit and consultancy sector. The service offerings include auditing, pre-audit consultancy, tax consultancy and transaction and real estate consultancy. Legal advice services are provided by associated Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH. Ernst & Young is a partner of both large and medium-sized companies. In the 2003/2004 business year, Ernst & Young Global employed 100,000 staff and recorded sales revenues of more than USD 14.5 billion.
