Alliance One Chooses Peak 10 for Managed Colocation

30.10.2006 posted by Administrator

Peak 10, the leading independent data center operator and managed services company, today announced the addition of Alliance One International, Inc. (“Alliance One”) (NYSE:AOI) to its growing and diversified portfolio of customers. Alliance One is a leading independent leaf tobacco merchant serving the world’s largest manufacturers. Peak 10 will provide the global leader with managed colocation services out of its world class data center facility located in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina.

“To keep pace with the changing, demanding and ‘always on’ business requirements of operating a global business, it is imperative that our technology infrastructure be secure and available,” said Bill Pappas, senior vice president and chief information officer with Alliance One. He further stated, “We selected Peak 10 to meet our business objectives based on their extensive expertise, strong technical resources and solid data center facility.”

Alliance One was formed in May 2005, as a result of the merger of DIMON Incorporated and Standard Commercial Corporation, both world leaders in tobacco processing. The new company brings together 200 years of combined experience and expertise, establishing a formidable global competitor with a clear focus on its customers, as well as a vision for the future. Alliance One selects, purchases, processes, packs, stores, and ships leaf tobacco. In certain developing markets, the company also provides agronomy expertise and financing for the growing of leaf tobacco.

“We are pleased to work closely with a global leader like Alliance One,” said Greg Rollet, vice president and general manager of Peak 10 Raleigh. “Peak 10 is providing Alliance One the advantages of owning their own data center and the benefits of outsourcing to an industry leader. Our world class centers and engineering expertise will keep Alliance One’s technology assets local as well as secure and available.”

Peak 10 provides data center services that improve reliability, lower costs, and maximize internal resources while keeping an organization’s valuable information technology assets close to the business. The company combines its network of world-class data centers and portfolio of managed services with localized engineering and support to serve market-leading companies nationwide. Following its recent acquisition of Nashville-based RenTech, Peak 10 owns and operates eight data centers in six strategic markets.

Largest Internet exchange in Central and Eastern Europe selects Force10 for 10-GbE

25.10.2006 posted by Administrator

OCTOBER 24, 2006 -- DE-CIX, the largest Internet exchange in Central and Eastern Europe, is deploying the Force10 Networks` TeraScale E-Series family of switch/routers in a comprehensive upgrade of its switching infrastructure to deliver resilient 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10-GbE) services to its customers.

The Force10 TeraScale E-Series will allow DE-CIX to scale its network to support an anticipated 200 Gbits/sec of traffic by next year as well as additional future growth, say Force10 representatives.

"Our sustained throughput of 84 Gbits/sec grew roughly 30% in the last three months, and we need a network infrastructure that can keep up with that growth while allowing us to scale our 10-Gig services to meet customer demand," explains Harald Summa, CEO of DE-CIX. "By replacing our existing infrastructure with the Force10 E-Series, we know we have a resilient network that can take us through the transition to 100 Gigabit Ethernet without impacting our customers."

DE-CIX is leveraging the density of the Force10 TeraScale E-Series to build out a resilient, high-performance network that will deliver scalable Gbit and 10-GbE peering services to its growing customer base. The TeraScale E-Series connects nine colocation facilities throughout Frankfurt in a 10-GbE backbone to support more than 190 providers from more than 20 countries. Supporting 1,260 Gbit- and 224 10-GbE ports, the TeraScale E1200 provides the density DE-CIX needs to increase its 10-GbE services and seamlessly scale its customer base to 230 by next year, reports Force10.

The patent-protected 5-Tbit/sec backplane of the Force10 TeraScale E-Series is uniquely architected for high-performance networks like DE-CIX that are currently processing high traffic levels and anticipate rapid growth in the future, say Force10 representatives. With up to 330 Gbits/sec per slot, the TeraScale E-Series is ready to support 100 GbE without the expense of a chassis or backplane upgrade.

"DE-CIX is experiencing phenomenal traffic growth driven by traditional data services as well as new bandwidth-intensive music and video applications," reports Mark Cooper, senior vice president of worldwide sales at Force10 Networks. "The Force10 TeraScale E-Series was designed to deliver long-term investment protection to customers by providing a reliable, high performance network and enabling a seamless transition to 100 Gigabit Ethernet."

Colocation and Managed Hosting Services Provider ColoServe adds CAT6 Cabling

23.10.2006 posted by Administrator

Colocation and managed hosting services provider ColoServe has upgraded its facility by adding CAT6 cabling, the company announced recently. The upgrade is part of a major project to rewire ColoServe’s entire San Francisco data center and enables ColoServe’s San Francisco colocation customers to connect to dedicated servers offered by ServePath - ColoServe’s parent company. The changes also enable Coloserve customers to request up to 10 gigabytes per second (Gbps) Internet connectivity without specialized equipment.

“ColoServe is a forward-thinking company, which is why we made the decision to upgrade to CAT6,” suggested John Keagy, President of ColoServe. “CAT6 supports communications at more than twice the speed of CAT5e, which is a huge advantage to our customers.”

ColoServe’s data center now supports next generation Internet applications such as IPTV. “No other provider can offer customers both colocation services and dedicated servers in one facility,” added Mr. Keagy. “This is a huge advantage to customers because it allows us to quickly configure and deploy, sometimes in a day or two, solutions that might take other providers months to prepare. And with the superior performance of CAT6, our customers can be assured of receiving the highest possible speed available for their applications.”
