Providing Ethernet service to seven LVAIC-affiliated institutions in Eastern Pennsylvania, under the terms of the agreement, the new service will be used by each college to enable high-speed collaboration, enhance Internet content delivery, share next-generation applications, and implement disaster recovery protocols.

Bill Marushak, Director of Business Services for LVAIC explained, ``Level 3`s comprehensive network capabilities and extensive experience in servicing the higher education marketplace made them our most logical and strategic partner for this major, multiple college deployment. The high performance interconnections provided by this service will deliver significant value to each of the seven colleges participating in this initiative. We also anticipate a positive effect on the greater Lehigh Valley community in the form of increased collaboration between LVAIC institutions and area enterprises, potentially resulting in more local employment opportunities.``

The initial delivery of 1 Gigabyte of Level 3 Dedicated Internet Access over Ethernet service to the LVAIC-affiliated institutions will begin in early 2007, with the complete rollout targeted for early 2008.

Joe McCourt, Senior Vice President of Sales for Level 3`s Business Markets Group added, ``We are pleased to announce this agreement with the Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges and look forward to supporting the advanced needs of the individual colleges, as well as those of the consortium. This agreement with LVAIC underscores our commitment to providing the academic community with state-of-the-art network services that encourage collaboration, research, administration and online educational activities.``

Earlier this year, Level 3 announced plans with Internet2, a U.S. advanced networking consortium led by the research and education community, to develop and deploy a new nationwide network that will provide next-generation production services and a platform for the development of networking ideas and protocols. Level 3`s Business Markets Group is dedicated to serving a broad range of organizations with high demands for connectivity and advanced network services, such as enterprises, local and state government agencies, and local and regional carriers.

Web Hosting, Colocation Data Center Expansion, Offered Wholesale, by SCALE 365

San Francisco, California - Developer and operator of data centers, 365 Main, has launched a national program, in which it will make large amounts of high-end data center real estate available at wholesale rates.
19.12.2006 posted by Administrator

SCALE 365 was created for companies that need to build or expand large footprints of modern data center space quickly. The program offers power, cooling, connectivity and security services in customizable private rooms of 5,000 to 20,000 square feet within 365 Main’s modern data centers. SCALE 365 also extends to the development of new, build-to-suit facilities.

In addition to mitigating financial risk and allowing all customers to focus on their core competencies, SCALE 365 is designed to allow hosting and colocation providers to generate top-line revenue by remarketing leased space quickly at favorable margins, as well as to enable scalability and faster time to market for their services.

Inaugural customers of SCALE 365 include: Global Netoptex Inc. (GNi), a San Jose, Calif.-based managed services provider whose clients include Symantec and the Oakland Raiders. GNi has leased more than 5,000 square feet from 365 Main’s flagship data center in San Francisco and is actively expanding in 365 Main’s Arizona, Los Angeles and Virginia data centers. In September GNi was named one of the 50 fastest-growing private companies in Silicon Valley by the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal.

Internap, a provider of performance-based routing solutions over the Internet with a diverse client list that includes Shopping.com, Nonfat Media and Digital Fusion. Atlanta-based Internap has leased more than 20,000 square feet from 365 Main nationwide

NET2EZ, a Los Angeles, Calif.-based provider of server colocation, multi-homed IP connectivity, metro Ethernet access services and network management services. 365 Main announced separately today that NET2EZ has doubled its footprint in 365 Main’s El Segundo, Calif. data center with the lease of a second 15,000-square-foot colocation room.

SCALE 365 was developed to allow hosting and colocation providers to expand quickly and generate revenue without facing the massive capital outlays required to build their own data centers,” said Chris Dolan, chief executive officer of 365 Main. The program also allows enterprises that aren’t interested in owning a corporate data center to lease all the raw space they need in a world-class facility and manage it as if it were their own, 365 days a year.

Pervez Delawalla, Chief Executive Officer of NET2EZ remarked, ``Outsourcing our data center environment to an award-winning expert such as 365 Main lets us focus on what`s running on the boxes as opposed to keeping the boxes running. That means we`re spending more time on our core competencies while we grow, which means we’re providing better service to our customers.``

365 Main Inc. develops and operates data centers designed, managed, developed and certified according to industry standards and compliance requirements, including SAS70, that feature 24/7/365 power, cooling, security and connectivity and capabilities to ensure mission-critical operations and business continuity for its tenants. 365 Main began with a single data center in San Francisco in 2003 and earlier this year expanded to Los Angeles, Phoenix and Northern Virginia. Customers include Charles Schwab, Sun Microsystems and Esurance. The company now has nearly one million square feet under management nationwide. Flexible cost structures are available for SCALE 365 customers. The company is privately held and based in San Francisco, Calif. and also offers core hosting services to large enterprises such as Charles Schwab, the Oakland Raiders and Sun Microsystems.

Equinix Veterans Launch New Colocation Company – DR Fortress – and Acquire Equinix Assets in Hawaii

Seasoned Management Team Raises More Than $ 11 Million USD to Provide Local Datacenter Services in Honolulu
12.12.2006 posted by Administrator

DR Fortress, LLC today announced the launch of the Company, its management team, its initial investors and the acquisition of Equinix’s (Nasdaq: EQIX) Hawaii operations. The Company, formed earlier this year after an extensive analysis of the market, will provide local datacenter and commercial colocation services in the State of Hawaii. DR Fortress also announced its intention to aggressively expand operations to meet the growing demand in this underserved market.

Led by longtime industry veterans and former employees of Equinix, DR Fortress was founded by Jeff Brown, Fred Rodi, Rosa White and Vinh Do. As the Company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Brown drives the strategic direction of the Company. Mr. Rodi serves as the Company’s President and is focused primarily on sales and Customer support operations. Ms. White, Chief Financial Officer, manages the Company’s accounting and investment activities. Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Do, is responsible for product development and innovation.

According to Mr. Brown, “This is a strong leadership team that has the passion and experience to deliver high value services to our Customers and high value returns to our investors.”

The Company recently completed its initial round of financing, raising more than $ 11 million USD from a diverse group of debt and equity supporters. Institutional backers include such respected organizations as SevenSeas Asset Management Co., Ltd., AIPA Properties, LLC and First Hawaiian Bank. DR Fortress also attracted a distinguished list of private investors from Hawaii, the US mainland and Japan.

“DR Fortress pairs a strong business plan with determined leadership in a market ripe for expansion,” said Sam Chung, a Principle at Peninsula Real Estate Partners and member of the DR Fortress Board of Directors. “That combination is a magnet for sophisticated investors.”

The Company also announced the acquisition of all Hawaii business operations from Equinix. Equinix is the leading provider of network-neutral datacenters and Internet exchange services in the continental US and Asia. Included in the transaction are a fully-leased, 11,800 square foot, purpose-built datacenter located in Honolulu and the only commercial Internet peering exchange in the State of Hawaii. All current Customers of the facility will be transitioned from Equinix to DR Fortress.

“The applications we host at DR Fortress are critical to our ability to provide our unique, unlimited wireless services to Hawaii consumers,” said Bill Jarvis, President and CEO of Mobi PCS. “And as one of Hawaii’s fastest growing companies, we are very pleased that DR Fortress is focused on the local market and paving a path forward to support our ever-increasing technology needs. We look forward to a long relationship with this innovative and talented team.”

The datacenter will be managed locally by Mr. Rodi, Ms. White and Brian Cox. As the Company’s Vice President of Operations, Mr. Cox will supervise the daily activities of the datacenter as he has done since the facility was originally built in July 2000. Furthermore, to ensure complete operational continuity, all of the Equinix staff have been retained and will continue to administer the security, engineering and technology functions of the facility.

“This facility is vital to the State’s economy and technology initiatives,” said Mr. Rodi. “Dozens of the area’s leading enterprises, network providers and eCommerce companies maintain their applications here. Similarly, several organizations outside of Hawaii also use the datacenter to reach audiences throughout the Pacific region. Equinix has prepared a solid foundation from which we can build a local growth business.”

DR Fortress also announced its plans to immediately increase the current capacity of the Honolulu datacenter in order to meet growing Customer demands for quality colocation space, electrical power and access to the core networks serving the State. The Company will add 75kW of critical electrical power to the colocation facility and increase cabinet capacity by 15% in the first quarter of 2007. Additional expansion opportunities are also being evaluated.
