TelecitRedbus to Invest £50m in New London Data Centre TelecityRedbus, one of Europe’s leading data centre and managed services companies, today announced it has begun construction on a new £50m data centre in Central London. The Powergate facility will be one of the highest specification data centres in Europe, with a planned 25 megawatts of resilient power and approximately 50,000sq feet of capacity. The facility is expected to be ready for customers in Q2 2008.

On completion, Powergate will be TelecityRedbus’ eighth data centre in London. The site will offer an average customer power of approximately 4 kilowatts per rack, well above the current standard, and designed to support the expected growth in customer power demands. High-density power zones will also be included in the facility offering up to 20 kW per rack. The facility will be supported by some of the most advanced power and cooling technology available to maximise energy efficiency.
The new data centre is required to support the growing demand for outsourced colocation, hosting and managed services in the UK, and specifically in London. Currently carrier-independent data centre facilities are reaching capacity, driving the requirement for further space.
The facility will offer connectivity to major telecoms and network service providers, and be connected to TelecityRedbus’ European data centres by the TelecityRedbus fibre network. In addition LINX, the London Internet Exchange, will have a live presence on the site from its launch, offering global peering and connectivity options for customers.
"The popularity of London as a place to connect Internet networks has helped drive enormous demand for carrier-independent data centre space,” comments John Souter, CEO, LINX. “We are delighted to see our partner, TelecityRedbus, moving to meet this demand allowing us to maintain the aggressive growth we`ve seen in London in recent years."
"Building on our long-standing and close relationship with TelecityRedbus, I look forward to the London Internet Exchange building a point of presence in this new facility to service our members’ requirements in the future."
Mike Tobin, CEO of TelecityRedbus, states: “The demand for data centre space is rapidly increasing as the convergence between the media, enterprise and telecom markets continues. TelecityRedbus data centres provide an important meeting point for the exchange and delivery of online content for enterprise and consumer applications. Our investment in this new site, which will be the first in central London for several years, demonstrates our commitment to providing our customers with the highly secure space, facilities, services and connected environment they require to support the growth in their business requirements. It is also an important step in keeping London at the forefront of the global internet market.”
